The swimming activities take place in our indoor heated swimming pool. It is designed to provide accessibility to our campers with a ramp, steps, and a lift. The swimming activities are designed to provide fun and skill building. The ratio of staff to campers in the pool is always one-to-one.
The following information is valid until May 2009.

Classification and Ability Level
All children under four years of age must wear plastic training pants underneath their swim suit. Children who are not potty trained must wear the training pants in addition to a swim diaper. Anyone who does not follow this policy will not be able allowed in the pool.

For children ages 6 months to 3 years. Helps young children become comfortable in and around the water. The program is designed to help parents learn techniques to help their children develop skills for entry into our swimming lesson program at the age of three.

| Special Needs |
One-on-one instruction for children with disabilities or special needs. The program is designed to teach basic skills, maintain and increase physical fitness, achieve success, and gain skills in an aquatic environment.

| Private Lessons |
These one-on-one lessons are designed to give more attention to students who may need extra help. Personalized to each child. *Prices differ, please call for more information.

Level 1A
|
Students will learn to feel comfortable and safe in the water. Introduction to basic aquatic skills, which will be the base for their progressions through our lessons. No previous instruction required.

| Level 1B |
This class requires children to stand in the shallow end, which is 38" deep. Children must be 40" to the bottom of their nose to qualify for this class. Children will build upon skills learned in Level 1A and begin more advance skills. Skills include unsupported floating and kicking on front and back, alternating arm actions, entering and exiting the water independently and water safety skills.

Prerequisites for all classes beyond Level 1:
Levels 2-6 students must have a certificate from the preceding level or be able to demonstrate all the completion requirements of the previous level.

| Level 2 |
All children enrolled will be expected to float unassisted on their front and back. Children should be comfortable with all basic skills. Children will learn locomotion skills, turning over front to back and back to front. Rescue skills and the beginning of the front and back crawl, including rhythmic breathing. |
| Level 3 |
All Children enrolling in level 3 will be expected to swim the width of the pool above water on their stomachs using alternating arm action. Students will build on skills from level 2, including the mastery of rotary breathing, back crawl, front crawl, elementary backstroke, deep water jumping and diving, treading water, and self rescue skills.

| Level 4 |
Students will develop the strokes learned thus far and increase endurance by swimming greater distances. Lessons will focus on deep water work, breaststroke, sidestroke, and diving skills.

| Level 5 |
Coordination and refinement of key strokes. Students will learn to perform the front and back crawl for increased distances, endurance, open turns on front and back, safe diving, and the butterfly. Strokes will be polished to enable student to swim with greater ease, efficiency and power over greater distances. Speed flip turns, pike/tuck surface dives will also be taught.

| Level 6 |
Develop perfect strokes and good fitness habits. Students can swim 500 yards continuously, perform flip turns, check heart rate, and tread water.

Each class meets one day a week for 40 minutes. You may choose to sign up for more than one class per week. EXAMPLE: If you want a Level 1 class twice a week, you would sign up for two Level 1 classes. Please select the classes desired form the list below. Click here for Level descriptions.

Exercise and Open Swim Hours
Rates for the following programs:
$6.00 per person per visit
Please arrive a minimum of 15 minutes before start time in order to register. Maximum 30 people, no exceptions. NOTE: No cash register. You MUST bring the proper change with you. Thank you for your cooperation.
Aquacise Classes:
M-F 9:00-10:00 am
M, TH 8:00-9:00pm
Have fun in the water and get a great workout too! The water gives your resistance for toning muscles and support to assist with joint movements and balance. Swimming skills are not necessary.
Arthritis Classes
M, W, F 12:30-1:30 pm
Take Advantage in our therapeutic pool. This program is designed for individuals with arthritis and related conditions. The program is offered to all adults. Swimming skills are not necessary.
Open Adult Swim
M-F 11:30-12:30pm
Take advantage of the best exercise available. Adults and Seniors have the pool to themselves. Lap swimming is not permitted. Lifeguard on duty and full locker room facilities available.
Lap Swim
M, W, F 1:30-2:30pm
TH 7:00-8:00pm
Lane lines will be set up for those individuals who are interested in lap swimming for the hour. Space will be available for those individuals who have finished swimming and would like to exercise.
Family Swim
M, W, F 7:00-8:00pm, Fri 8:00-9:00pm, T & TH- 1:30-2:30pm
Bring the entire family for an hour of our open swim. Rules are strictly enforced to ensure the safety of all participants.

Additional Programs
Swim Team
Practices are on Sunday 9:00-11:00am
Swimmers will increase endurance, while having fun competing amongst themselves and others. They will maintain and increase physical fitness, strive towards success with competitive swimming, and gain experience in an aquatic environment.
This program is designed to interest those individuals who want to be a part of a team, but are not necessarily interested in outside competition.
Students must be in at least our level 4 class.
Cost: $120.00/session
Pool Parties
Perfect for Birthday Parties, Family Gatherings,Boy and Girl Scouts, Church groups, and other groups! Parties may be scheduled during the following times:
- Saturdays: 1:00-7:00pm
- Sundays: 11:00-7:00pm
Available through June 6-7 2009
$175.00 for 1 hour pool time, and 1 hour of reception
$125.00 for one hour of the pool only
$100.00 for each additional hour of pool time.

There will be Family Swim times during the following vacations from 2:30-3:30pm.

Cost is $6 per person, limit of 30 people in the pool.

Registration Location
Registration takes place at Easter Seals Camp Hemlocks, 85 Jones Street, Hebron CT 06248. Classes must be paid in full to confirm a place, first come first served. Telephone and mail in registration will be taken after walk-in registration is completed. Registration will close the Friday before classes start.
Prices for Swim Lessons
Regular 8-week session = $114.00/child
Holiday 7-week session = $100.00/child
Private lessons = $25.00/half hour
Swim Team = $120.00/child
10% Discount for additional children from the same family.
Make-Up Policy
Upon completion of each swimming session we program an extra week into our schedule. This time will be utilized in the event that we, the staff of Easter Seals Camp Hemlocks, find it necessary to cancel swimming lessons on a particular day(s). Reasons for canceling may include, but are not limited to, severe weather (including thunder and lightning).
Although we do understand that you may have personal reasons for missing swimming lessons, we cannot accommodate make-ups for any personal reasons.
Refund Policy
Full refund: will be issued for medical reason (physician’s note required) and for programs canceled by Easter Seals Camp Hemlocks.
Partial refund: will be issued with a one-week notice from participant for aquatics classes, and a two week notice for pool parties. All refunds within this time frame are subject to a $10.00 processing fee.
No Refunds will be issued for: less than one-week notice of cancellations for aquatic classes, less than two weeks notice for pool parties, or ANY unattended program.
Weather-Storm Closing
In the event of inclement weather class cancellations will be announced on WTIC-1080AM, WILI-FM 98.3, and on WFSB Channel 3, and
WVIT Channel 30. A message will also be left on the Aquatics Directors voicemail stating the date, and if we are closed. If the regular message is displayed classes are open at that point.
